Always have a difficult time with worst and worse. Even if they both mean the same they do not always sound the same on a sentence.

America the Beautiful

This was a nice reading by Dinesh D'souza because it was finally a compliment for the country. A lot of bad things had been talked about lately about this nation forgetting all the wonderful things that are in it. Religion is a difficult subject because most of the time just ends up in an argument same as politics. Religion in the middle east is very chaotic they do not agree on anything and like Dinesh D'souza said they mix religion and politics making it a bigger conflict. It is very sad how very bad people use God as motivation to kill. The United States is miss understood by many this country is just trying to fight for what they believe and to keep their liberty. If other countries do not want to follow should be their problem. But not attack this land just to make a point. When people act bad, bad it will end. So the terrorist one day will pay for all the harm they do to others. Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and all those countries that fight for religion is they been doing it for thousands of years they will keep doing it for another thousand. They will not change.

Modes

The two modes that I was interested where comparison/contrast adn proposition and opposition mode. But what really would make my paper better would be proposition and opposition mode.

Sometimes when I writing to fast I write to wrong things or things don't make sense but when I read what I wrote i notice that I makes mistake with "whole" and "hole". Got the definitions.

Framing class, Vicarious living, adn conspicuous consumption

In this reading the author was Diana Kendall which she express what the media its about. The media is clearly only interested in only making money and helping others make money. Media is very controlling only saying what they think people want to hear or the things they want people to believe. Well the media like Diana mention makes fun of the lower class, which I don't understand why because they are hard working people and do what they can to have what they need. The lower class are the real deal of the American dream they fight for a reason, not like the rich they just do nothing they don't have anything to leave for. IT is true that many Americans buy what they can't afford well just look at what is happening now, but they don't think before they do. Americans don't think about consequences they just want to live the moment. The sad thing it that children are getting used to this media control, so like Diana said by the time they are adults they would be living with the wrong message. The media won't stop just because money is what drives them, but it is up to us to take it or not. Credit cards are the worst thing I have ever heard don't have one and never will they just take advantage of people and they know it. Credit cards should be something reliable not the reason for a person for be in depth. Always check the interest on those things if not you will be working to pay them for the rest of your life.

Breather assignment.

Hunting For Witches
I'm sitting on the roof of my house
With a shotgun and a six pack of beer
The newscaster say's "the enemy is among us!"
As bombs explode on the 30 bus
Kill that middle class indecision
Now is not the time for liberal thought
So I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll
So I go hunting
1990's, optimistic as a teen
But now its terror, airplanes crash into towers
The Daily mail say's "the enemy is among us!"
"Taking our women and taking our jobs"
All reasonable thought is being drowned out
By the non-stop baying, baying for blood
So I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll
So I go hunting
I was an ordinary man, with ordinary desire
I watched TV it informed me
I was an ordinary man with ordinary desire
There must be accountability
Disparate and misinformed
Fear keeps us all in place

Serving in Florida

In this article Barbara Ehrenreich tells her story as she tried to handle two jobs and the things she goes through. She tells her story very well. Having two jobs is not easy I personally have never had two jobs, but people that i know that do it is hard. Working two jobs also affects your health like Barbara explains she was leaving on pain pills. What i got out of this story is that without education you just go from job to job and never be happy with what you are doing. The answer to get what you want is to get an education a degree on something. Working as a waitress for your whole life there will come a time in life when the person will think what have i done with my life and realize they are not happy. Not having an education means going from job to job with low salary and doing something you don't like and staying there because you need the money. Going to college could be hard, but it is worth it. The time to act is now because when we are 50 or older and realize that we didn't do anything in our life it could be to late. It is good that Barbara just walked away and realized that she didn't have to keep working there if she didn't want to. Sometimes we just think on other things instead of thinking what makes us happy. It was also nice that Barbara tried to help her coworkers, they because your closest friends because you spend most of the time with them. But even having nice coworkers if like Barbara have a mean manager well makes your life miserable. So the conclusion finish college no matter what even if it will take a 100 years, but at the end you will feel good that you did something with your life and nobody will take that away from you. Do it for yourself to have a better life.

Use of dash. I see a lot of - but i never learn how to use them. It could be (-) or (--)

The Roots of Debate

This reading was by Deborah Tannen discussing different methods of communication in class. For this reading i don't necessary think it is mostly applied to women. People in general are afraid of the same things when it comes to speaking in public. People are afraid of looking dumb. I was told once that there isn't a dumb question because someone else might have the same question. That's why we go to school to learn , so we shouldn't be afraid to ask and share our opinions. People have different ways of thinking and different points, so it doesn't matter if out ideas aren't shared. We are individuals and we can't help on having different opinions. When teaches get in arguments with teacher now it is not necessary discussing a theory is mostly why they got that grade. When schools where more strict students learn things and memorized a lot more because they didn't want to be yelled at or be humiliated in class. Now sometimes for school students aren't ready for their lesson even bring paper and pencil to class. It would be nice if schools could be meet in the middle of what school was and what it is now. Debating in class is good giving different opinions and it might help someone see things different.

Use of comma splices:
Don't forget tomorrow is Monday, we have to go to the doctor.
Instead use a (.) or a (;)
Don't forget tomorrow is Monday. We have to go to the doctor.
Don't forget tomorrow is Monday; We have to go to the doctor.

Also in this website they have more samples how the sentence can be written.

I just want to be average

In this article Mike Rose uses mostly pathos because in his essay he talks about his memories. Mike talks about mostly about what anyone would remember when you are in high school. Remember the popular kids, the trouble makers and your own friends. There is always something in life that sticks with you until you find an answer and for Mike Rose was when one of his classmates said that he just wanted to be average. At the time a lot of things could sound stupid, but then we realize that maybe is not that stupid that it has a meaning. Mike Rose also remembers his father and the things that happened to him.
The main point of the reading is how one teacher Mr. MacFarland changed his life, he made a difference in Mikes life. Mike had people in and out of his life, but for him Mr. MacFarland was the one that made a point. Mike started thinking different about reading and what school was about. The most important is that even thought he didn't have perfect grades Mr. MacFarland made Mike realize that he could still make it.
Mr. MacFarland made class different and actually became friends with his students. Mike Rose started college with Mr. MacFarlands help, but also knew that he had to make it on his own to be able to stay at Loyola University. Mike Rose has good and bad memories, but he decided to do the best to make them a positive things in his life.

Against School

John Taylor is a teacher that it giving his point of view of the school system here in the United States. John would be the perfect person to critique the school system because he has been in it and he knows how it works. What is most interesting is that John Taylor also thought in one of the most difficult school system of the United States. Also knowing how hard those kids could be he still wanted to make a difference.
John was the kind of teacher that he notice and personally experience what a lot of students think, that school is boring so they see it as worthless. He noticed what was happening and tried to make a change, but like always some people don't like change. Schools just want kids to think the same and do the same things.
Kids are thought to only listen not to express their thoughts, so that is when kids start having low self- esteem. Kids should be encourage to dream and have big ideas because for them there aren't any obstacles so when they grow older they already have the courage to achieve their dreams.
John Taylor really encourages parents to help their children be different. To not only be a part of society, but to do something for society. Also saying that school is not necessary a place where kids need to go for 8 hours. As long as parents educate their kids at home and let them know that everything is in their head that everything we do should be done thinking that it would be something to learn. In this article a lot of ethos and logos is used because John Taylor is talking about how he thinks things should be and using logic why things should be changed.

Idiot Nation

This article is what I called being honest. Michael Moore talks about the education system here in the United States. Also talks about how some of the people that are in charge of the nation are not smarter than us. In this paper he sets a lot of samples and gives a lot of names without been afraid. So it makes it more real like he really means what he is saying that he stands behind his word. For this article I won't have called an Idiot Nation because if this nation was full of Idiots it wouldn't be one of the most powerful countries in the world. The article mentions a lot of things I already thought where happening is kind of obvious. I personally don't know a lot of the answers to the question he mention in the article. It is sadly that the education is like it is. In our life time is not only important to know about what is happening at the moment, but is good to know and recognize what others in our past have done for this nation. I am from Colombia and when I was younger I went to school there and I remember that I had homework everyday on every single subject. For an exam there wasn't any multiple choice, so I had to study like crazy. Also by six grade I was starting to see chemistry & physics it was nuts and really hard. When I moved to the United States I was happy that I got to choose my classes and that school was a lot easier. So from the reading it makes me realize that what he is saying is true. Education is important at any age because it will make us what we are. Also is not fair what teachers are paid its sad. what is worst is that with the salary that teachers make they sometimes have to buy supplies for them and for their students. Some people blame teachers for their children lack of education, but the truth is that everything starts at home.

Looking for work & what we miss about the 1950's

Looking for work by Gary Soto tells the story about a boy that want to imitate what he sees on TV and the story about his family. What we really missed about the 1950's is an article that compares the present with the past. The culture of the American family is kind of similar to what it was in the past. Some people try to imitate what they watch on TV thinking that they see is real or could bring them happiness. Some people make their lives miserable because they can't have something or be like someone else. A family is composed by a dad, mom and children, marriage is not a fairy tale. To have a successful marriage it needs to be worked on every day. Its like a plant if you don't add water to it, it dies. Understand each other and respect each other. What is most interesting about the first reading is about this boy that from an early age he is already about having money, the only good things is that he knows that he has to work to accomplish this. People that really succeed in life have to give a long fight, make a lot of sacrifices, takes a long time and work hard. Also by imitating whats on tv its sadly that he feels that he could be accepted by this. In my opinion the some problems about race have changed, but not complete. A lot of people are judged of where they are from or how much money they have. So if someone doesn't like you, sometimes unless you are perfect on one of my previous statement, people won't accept you no matter what. From the second reading about the 1950's people wanted to have or pretend to have the perfect family. Some families where together, but unhappy. Maybe this article didn't talk about racism directly, but there was a discrimination against women. What is interesting about this article is that women started to realize that they could work and they where more valuable that what men gave them credit for. Times for women have changed and will always continue to change. Because women are more respected and heard. Things are going to continue to change and for women for the better.
